What Counts As Builders Waste
Builders' waste is for mixed renovation and building rubbish where the load is mainly lighter renovation material, but can also include a small amount of heavy recyclable material. This waste category suits bathroom strip-outs, kitchen renovations, old cabinetry, plaster, timber offcuts, carpet, underlay, packaging, flooring, shelving, damaged fittings, and general renovation clean-up waste.
Up to about 10% of the skip bin volume can consist of heavier materials such as bricks, concrete, tiles, pavers, soil, or rubble. If the load consists mainly of heavy material rather than renovation waste, it belongs in a different waste category.
If your waste consists only of clean concrete, go to 100% Concrete Skip Bins. If it is clean soil only, use 100% Soil, Dirt Or Clay. If it is bricks and pavers, go to Skips For Bricks & Pavers. If it is a mix of heavy materials only, use Mixed Heavy Recyclable Waste. You can compare all our skip bin waste types on our Skip Bin Waste Types page.
DIY Renovation Waste That Sits Between Light Waste And Builders Waste
Some DIY renovation jobs create waste that is too heavy for a standard light domestic waste skip bin, but still well below a full builders' waste load.
If you are removing an old vanity, pulling out kitchen cabinets, lifting floor tiles, replacing a small laundry, or doing a modest update at home, we may be able to tailor a skip bin service to suit your job. Instead of pushing you straight into a full builders' waste price, we can sometimes agree on a suitable weight limit and a matching price before delivery.
This option suits smaller renovation loads where the waste is heavier than normal household rubbish, but not heavy enough to justify a full builders' waste skip bin.
Any tailored price and weight limits must be agreed with Wendy in advance before booking. If the agreed weight limit is exceeded, an excess weight fee will apply.
If you are unsure whether your waste fits Light Domestic Waste, Builders Waste Skip Bin Hire, or a tailored in-between option, call Wendy before booking and we will help you work out the best fit for the job.
What You Can Put in a Builders Waste Skip Bin
Builders' waste skip bins are for mixed renovation and building rubbish.
Allowed materials generally include plaster, timber offcuts, old cabinets, shelves, carpet, underlay, packaging, broken fittings, general strip-out waste, dry renovation debris, and similar mixed building rubbish. A small amount of heavy recyclable material, such as tiles, concrete, bricks, pavers or soil, can also be included, as long as it stays within the allowed limit for this waste category.
This page is best for mixed renovation waste, not full heavy loads. If the heavy material starts becoming a major part of the load, the job usually belongs in one of the dedicated heavy-waste categories instead.
What Cannot Go In This Waste Category?
Builders' waste skip bins are not for full loads of heavy recyclable materials or prohibited waste.
Do not book builders waste if the load is mainly concrete, soil, bricks, pavers, rocks or rubble. Those materials need the correct heavy waste category.
Do not put asbestos, chemicals, paint, oils, liquids, gas bottles, batteries, tyres, mattresses, hazardous waste, fire extinguishers, food waste, or any prohibited waste into the skip bin.
Human or animal waste, contaminated bedding, and medical waste are not allowed in our skip bins. Please read our Prohibited and hazardous Waste page for full details before loading your skip.
If you are unsure about a material, call Wendy before booking. It is much easier to sort out the correct waste type before the skip is delivered than after it has been loaded.
Choosing The Right Builders Waste Skip Bin Size
Builders waste can take up a lot of room, but it can also become heavy quickly, especially when tiles, flooring, old wet plaster, books, paperwork or dense renovation debris are mixed through the load.
A 2m³ builders waste skip bin suits smaller strip-outs, bathroom updates, laundry renovations, and minor DIY renovation waste.
A 3m³ builders waste skip bin suits bathroom renovations, small kitchen strip-outs, unit renovations, and mixed worksite clean-ups where the waste builds up faster than expected.
A 4m³ builders waste skip bin suits larger kitchen renovations, home updates, extension work, and bigger mixed renovation clean-ups.
A 6m³ builders waste skip bin suits larger strip-outs, shop fit-out waste, bigger house renovation jobs, and bulky renovation loads where there is a lot of material to remove in one go.
If you are not sure which skip size suits your job, visit our Skip Bin Sizes page or call Wendy before booking. It is usually easier and better value to book the right skip first than to run short of room halfway through the job.
Weight Matters With Builders Waste
Builders' waste skip bins have a much higher weight allowance than light domestic waste, which is why they cost more. That makes sense for proper renovation waste, but not every DIY job needs the full builders' waste allowance.
Some materials catch people out because they look manageable until they start piling up. Tiles, wet plaster, rubble, books, magazines, boxed paperwork and dense flooring waste can all add weight quickly, even when the skip bin is not full.
That is why it helps to tell Wendy exactly what you are throwing out before you book. We can help you choose between light domestic waste, builders waste, or an agreed in-between option if your load suits it.
